| Step One: Make Sure You Have a Healthy Breakfast. So, our day began relatively early, at Roney's Restaurant, on Rt. 130 North in, hmmmm, I'm guessing Collingswood. But it might be Haddon Township. Either way, Roney's is not in the Pine Barrens, but if it's in New Jersey, it's never far from the Pine Barrens. I think it was that morning that Glen spent most of his time at Roney's talking to some poor smelly guy who spent the previous night in the Dunkin' Donuts Dumpster across the highway. No offense to the Dumpster Dweller, but I'm glad I wasn't sitting next to him.
Oh yeah, Roney's. Roney's is pretty awesome. It's Glen's favorite place to eat in the whole wide world. The whole place is about as
big as my kitchen. It seats about 10, tightly. Frequented by a lot of smokers, storytellers, folks with LOTS of opinions on
the war in Iraq; and the occasional guy who lives in Dumpsters. Run by the most wonderful -- and cantankerous -- waitresses I've met.
Roney's serves the best breakfast special around: two eggs, toast, homefries, bacon AND sausage. The sign on the wall warns that you cannot have all bacon
or all sausage, you have to have some of each, and that's that. However, most of the waitresses will ask you if you want all bacon, or all sausage.
You get all of this for $3.95. Glen usually orders a short stack of pancakes to go with his breakfast special: they're great pancakes. Not as good
as my sister Jennie's, he says, but it's a closer drive to Roney's than to Jennie's. Glen and the waitress traded good-natured insults, as Glen, his sister Brenda, the homeless guy, and I had breakfast. We finished up, left the homeless guy at Roney's and headed east.
