Yum. Red Chocolate.
Chatsworth, NJ is one of the cranberry capitals of the world; in fact, I recall reading that this area of the state is home to the nation's third largest cranberry crop. Must be a good spot because Ocean Spray has offices there, and every year in the fall, there's a country/crafty Cranberry Festival. Chatsworth, NJ (no offense to any Chatsworthian readers), is also one of the strangest places in New Jersey. I have plans to do a web travel journal devoted just to Chatsworth. So, if any of you folks from Chatsworth find offense here, please know that:
a. This is all good natured, and
b. I have photos to prove that your town is not quite normal (at least some of the backroads).
So. Back to Rt. 539, next to Mayo's and Wubaditty Lane, at one point in time, travellers traversing the lonely stretch of road between the Jersey shore and Philadelphia, were able to take a break for some fudge in the Chatsworth region. Some cranberry fudge, in particular. Sound appealing to you? Personally, I'm not so sure about this one. I think the flavors might actually work, but the visual -- red and brown -- just leaves an uncomfortable image in my mind. Can't help but think of the result of a very unhealthy intestinal situation.

Turns out the place wasn't opened when we made our stop at Mayo's, and there's a good chance, judging by the state of the lawn, that it hadn't been open for a very long time.

Oh, just want to make it clear that I'm not exactly picking on Chatsworth. Located within the borders of Woodland Township, Burlington County, Chatsworth has a great town center and a lot of history. To find out more, check out some links:

And I'll post my travel log soon, so you can find out stuff that isn't in the books!
